In recent decades, particularly since the horror that erupted on 9/11, more than a few dramatic movies have dealt with real-life events and/or social issues in ways that are often so engaging that they supersede most Hollywood blockbusters. Some of the very best deal with the kind of rampant corporate malfeasance that goes on when there are few or no regulations in place to protect the people that these corporations have a tendency to harm with all-too-painful regularity. DARK WATERS is one of those films.
Mark Ruffalo portrays Robert Billott, a Cincinnati-based attorney who is part of a law firm that represents dozens of multi-billion dollar corporations, the biggest not only in America but the world at large as well. But when he hears about a farmer in his own hometown of Parkersburg, West Virginia who has lost nearly two hundred head of cows because they drank from toxically polluted water, he wades into the situation (albeit reluctantly at first) and discovers that one of the companies he has represented in his time, no less than DuPont, is the corporation whose dumping of their toxic waste is responsible for not having only killed livestock, but poisoning and/or severely deforming almost everybody there in Parkersburg, nearly seventy thousand in all. Combing through documents dating all the way back to the 1970s, he learns that some of this poisoning may be connected to a very well-known product, that DuPont created back in the early 1960s (everyone will know all too well what the name of that product is) and is in practically everything in every home in the United States, including pots and pans. The toll it took on him and his family, including the relationship with his wife (portrayed by Anne Hathaway) was almost too much for him (he ended up in the hospital for a time) but he kept on fighting for the people in his town, getting blood samples from everyone tested to be used as evidence of DuPont's corporate malfeasance, which virtually bordered on corporate homicide.
Based on Nathaniel Rich's article "The Lawyer Who Became DuPont's Worst Nightmare" that appeared in the New York Times Magazine in 2016, DARK WATERS is quite well directed by Todd Haynes (I'M NOT THERE; WONDERSTRUCK) and co-written by Matthew Michael Carnahan (LIONS FOR LAMBS; DEEPWATER HORIZON. Ruffalo, who portrayed one of the Boston Globe reporters in the much-acclaimed 2015 drama SPOTLIGHT, ably portrays Billott in a way that gives us a glimpse into his way of thinking that, just by having represented DuPont in his time, he himself may have been somewhat responsible for the years-long poisoning of his own hometown, even if only indirectly. The atmosphere conjured up by Haynes is not too dissimilar to what we saw in ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, SPOTLIGHT, or THE POST, one that is decidedly sinister, shadowy and arguably corrupting. Tim Robbins, well known for his highly liberal political beliefs, does a good job of playing Ruffalo's partner in the firm, who is initially extremely reluctant to take his side but then does when the facts about DuPont become too big to ignore. Mare Winningham is also good as one of Parkersburg's many residents who have to face what the town's biggest employer has been doing to then for decades.
While it may seem all too common for movies to take what may seem like potshots at multi-billion dollar conglomerates, when they do the wrong thing (which seems to happen all too frequently, as it did with DuPont) then those wrongs have to have a light shone on them. This is what DARK WATERS does; and as a result, it was one of the best films released in 2019.

This disaster plus action movie is exciting from big disaster scene near the beginning to the very end. The effects are as good as any Western blockbuster and the battle sequences are exciting and well choreographed. The characters are funny and quite endearing. If you like this drama, enjoy. Drama is caused by 51% of the world's population which have the same destructive nature. Movies with humans have the hero and girl trying to get with each other. They even include animals assuming human characteristics of that man-woman nonsense. Be careful of what gets brainwashed into your subconscious from this. Watch out for hole guys. The romance angle (romance(tm) is too much a term for this) is handled charmingly/cutesy but all of this is like aw man here we go with this stuff. I know this movie is showing guidance to males how to deal with females. All imagination shown in this movie, creativity is the male ability, while females are replication of humans (aka babies) so both goals are contrasts with each other and know if you stick it in their hole your creativity goes swoosh disintegrates, you fall inline with patriarchy which is uncompromising. Replication is them celebrating the debauchery of humankind while creativity is trying to get closer to God (creating imaginative things.) Any contact with female is the road to babies guys. Even the cutesy way movie dalliances are portrayed. Certainly not one of Eastwood's best films, but better than most films these days.
I would like to think that this movie is a vindication for Richard Jewell, but the film did not completely convince me of his innocence. Probably should have presented the evidence better of how Jewell could not have made the call and returned to the scene before the bomb went off.
Very good acting by all of the cast. Clint Eastwood has been hit or miss for many years with the latter years of his career being more miss than hit. I did really like The Mule, which was his latest effort. It was funny and engaged the viewers. The story of Richard Jewell is one that I did not know about but I was willing to check it out and see if Eastwood good go on a winning streak of sorts. I'm happy to say that Richard Jewell was actually really entertaining and has a very well acted performance by Paul Walter Hauser.
The film is about the true story about a security guard who located a pipe bomb in 1996 during a celebration in Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park. While the bombing did injure around 100 people, the acts of the guard prevented more chaos. However, after the incidents the hero soon becomes the suspect as the FBI become relentless in their pursuit of Jewell being the lead suspect, despite Jewell not being involved with the crime. The film also stars Jon Hamm, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde, and Kathy Bates.

Hauser is really good in this film. I liked his role in I, Tonya and he shows here he can handle a lead. Rockwell is always on form and one of my very favorites. Bates also has a rather understated but powerful role. The film does well to capture the feelings of panic after the bombing and really does a job of portraying the events that transpired. There's been controversy recently because of the negative portrayal of reporter Kathy Scruggs. I don't know if its true that the journalist was like that however her death from overdose must have been tragic, especially as it likely stemmed from the Jewell case.

I'm not sure a lot of it was as factual as it can be but Eastwood brings a very digestible and watchable effort that shows how hard it is to show innocence with circumstances look like they are going against you. After seeing the worst film of the year yesterday, I am glad to have seen something that I really liked. Clint Eastwood's directorial career lives on and feels as fresh as ever.

Cast:
Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon play Sadashivrao Bhau & Parvati ( Bhau's wife) respectively. Awesome performances by both; though I am not a great fan of Arjun Kapoor of late, he has given a restrained performance without any undue histrionics and over the top hamming.
Sanon is awesome with her role and her voiceover as the narrator of this great battle saga is also noteworthy. Looks very pretty too in traditional Maharashtrian attire.
Sanjay Dutt as Abdali does a decent job, looking like a fierce Afghan warrior in the true sense. Performance wise, he is ok, yet not something to go gaga about either.
Others like Mohnish Behl, Padmini Kolhapure, Nawab Shah etc do a decent job with their small roles.
Length of the film :
A tad bit long at 2 hrs 51 mins, especially the first half which focuses on the build up to the war. The film however pics up pace in the second half and that's where the real action happens. Length of the film could have been cut down by at least 20 mins. Too detailed at times which slows down the narrative.
Direction, Cinematography, VFX, Music etc:
Direction by Gowarikar is decent. He has done a lot of research for the film and it shows on screen. Costumes & jewellery are awesome.
Sets give a larger than life feel, but do not capture every angle and detail, not bad though.
VFX is okay, though not in the same league as Bahubali
Music by Ajay Atul is a big letdown. No foot thumping songs like "Malhari" from Bajirao Mastani here. Sad.
My verdict: By no means is Panipat a bad film. Watch it as a standalone film without comparing it to Bajirao Mastani. A great one time watch. Don't go by what the critics say ( as I have said many times before. br> Watch it on the big screen with your family and celebrate the valor of the vanquished. br> 7/10 from me for this period drama.

But they are 99% spot on, timing and meaning wise.

The White Sheik is technically Fellini's second film, but the first one in which he did not share directing credits. However, he did share writing credits with Michelangelo Antonioni, Ennio Flaiano and Tullio Pinelli. If you are a fan of La Strada and Nights of Cabiria then you must see this film.

Although I will say that the fire fighter scenes were pretty intense regardless if they were only training or had to attend buildings that were on fire due to fireworks.
I understood this films backdrop involving the feeling of losing someone through drowning and honestly the ending was a near hard hitter for me. However I would have liked if the couples experience together was more in depth because as I said yet again, it was rather rushed. It didn't give much in depth either with the other guy who had a crush on her or if he was going for someone else. Since I'm not gonna say spoilers to telling you who's who, it's best to watch the film.
Animation wise, it was pretty alright. Not amazeballs but it was easy on the eyes at least.
As much as the film did offer a bit of emotion, it's not the ultimate worse or disappointment I've ever seen. However room for improvement is what it definitely definitely needs in terms of story pace development.

Hinako is a surfer, Minato is a firefighter. Both about 20 and they fall in love. Everything is ridiculously perfect, but one day Minato drowns while trying to save someone from the ocean.
Hinako, understandably takes it pretty bad, but to her surprise, whenever she starts singing their favorite song, Minato's spirit appears in the closest body of water - be it a stream, the ocean, or a bottle of mineral water.
The whole story is really about Hinako, Minato's friends and family, and how they slowly but finally learn to "let go.
Of course, it's magical-realism, so in the end we get to witness some crazy action as well, where we surf down a skyscraper with our protagonists.
Unfortunately, this is not the most original story, the characters are a little two dimensional, and the filmmaking could've been a little braver.
It's fine though, the film looks really nice, colorful with constantly glowing orange hues and cool blues. The action looks fantastic as well and the environments feel very "lived in" and detailed. Seeing it on a big screen really adds to the experience.
It is also paced well, has some pretty funny moments, as well as a couple of quite moving ones.
Recommended if you manage to catch it screening somewhere, but not an essential viewing.

Seberg (Benedict Andrews) is an affair drama which is an interpretation of a real story. Combining the lead character's professional and personal roles, it explores her personal and relational lives.
Kristen Stewart gives a slightly contrite performance and she seems to have been once again typecast. Thankfully, the supporting cast are there with good performances to make up for the lack of personal connection with the main character. Unfortunately the excellent costume design is not enough to carry the film and will likely be overlooked.
Speaking after a screening at TIFF, the director explained the film is really a story of voyeurism; the addiction and danger of the watcher and watched. Even so, the excitement of surveillance is lost on an emotional contrived performance.
